Hello, I really enjoy your blog and recently started picking up some LPs, 7 inch, records. Up till now my little usb turntable has been fine, but in trying to upload my new 78 rpm records I found it didn't have the capabilities for it. If you have any information about the equipment you use would be great. Thanks, Sam.

hi Sam .. i have no idea whatsoever about 78's - i have a load out in the garage, but nothing to play them on ... which is probably a good thing, otherwise i'll spend even more money i don't have on more stuff i don't get 'round to! (not to mention waste even more time i don't have!) ;)

as for what i use for 'normal' records .. i've got a Numark usb turntable & use Nero SoundTrax as i found Audacity fudged up my stuff (see earlier rips & a whole bunch of comments about sound quality somewhere way back in the archives)

feel free to ask more .. i'll try & answer a bit quicker next time!

peace ;)

There is a simple solution... Record your 78s at 45rpm, then with a sound editor that has a time stretch facility, stretch the total time of your recording by the correct ratio..
Which in this case will be
45/78 = 0.577
multiply the total time in seconds with this ratio...
I've done this myself, the results are quite satisfactory...
