Modest Wedding Dresses (An Overview)

How to Choose a Modest Wedding Dress

If you've set foot inside of a formalwear department store or a nationwide bridal retailer lately, you know how difficult it is to find wedding and bridesmaids gowns that come anywhere close to satisfying higher standards of modesty. Modest brides need to eliminate a lot of dresses from the running at first glance. So how do they select the best one from the remaining acceptable choices?
Modest Wedding Dresses
Contrary to what a lot of fashion designers seem to think, there are thousands of flattering styles and designs of modest gowns for brides and bridesmaids. It all depends on your budget, your wedding colors and theme, and of course your body type. Learn which modest wedding dresses fit you best and how to find a gown that is both modest and stylish. Then pair them with just the right veil, shoes, and accessories to wrap it all together into your perfect bridal ensemble for you.

Where to Find the Perfect Wedding Dresses

Even in the dead of winter, it's truly difficult to find even one modest dress in the formalwear or bridal section of most retailers. Most women's formalwear is strapless or backless with a plunging neckline. The irony is that dresses with a little more coverage are actually more flattering for the majority of body types out there! Regardless of whether or not it makes sense, the fact is that any bride is going to have a difficult time finding a modest bridal gown - so she might as well know what to do about the situation.

Modest Wedding Dresses
Wedding Dress Specialty Stores

LDS brides who live in areas with a large concentration of other Latter-day Saints usually have an easier time finding dresses that suit them for their Mormon wedding. Specialty LDS weddings retailers cater solely to Mormon brides who don't want to bend their standards of modesty for their wedding day. Even brides who don't live in Utah often make a special dress-shopping trip to Provo or Salt Lake City, including the travel cost in their wedding dress budget.

Non LDS brides seeking to find modest wedding dresses, or modest wedding gowns, will have to search for the Modest Wedding Dress Specialty Stores near them. The modest, non LDS, bride can save themselves time by shopping in dress store catering to the need of LDS brides to find modest bridal gown stores with a good selection of beautiful, yet modest wedding dresses.

Online Formalwear Retailers

Even if you live in an area with little modest selection and don't want to travel, you're not completely out of luck. The Internet can be your best friend in shopping for modest wedding gowns and bridesmaid's dresses. LDS specialty stores may physically reside in Utah and Idaho, but they have an online presence everywhere in the world. Regular formalwear stores also have a larger selection online than you see in the showroom, so you may want to check those out, too.
Modest Wedding Dresses
Chain Formal and Bridal Stores

Don't discount the possibility of finding a dress at a non-LDS formalwear or bridal store. You may luck out and fall in love with a modest wedding gown that they carry, or you may find a gown that can be altered for modesty by adding sleeves or a chemise underneath. Talk to the salespeople about your needs and see if they can help you. It may be that they carry "less popular" dresses with sleeves in the warehouse and just need to order them in your size.

LDS Temple Ready Dresses

Even if the wedding gown you ultimately select is modest, it still might not be "temple ready." A dress that can be appropriately worn inside the temple for the sealing ceremony is:

• White
• Long-sleeved
• Floor-length
• High necked (no collarbone showing)
• No train

If you don't want to wear a long-sleeved wedding dress, don't panic. You can always wear a dickie or faux sleeve inserts provided by the temple underneath your dress for the sealing, or you might opt to change into a plain white temple dress for the sealing. Brides without a temple ready dress can still get married in the temple, and have lots of options for what to wear during the sealing ceremony.

Temple ready rules only apply to the bride's dress. The wedding party is not a part of the temple sealing ceremony. If the bridesmaids will be attending the sealing, they will be attending only as guests, wearing either their bridesmaid's dress or changing into their "Sunday best" for the ceremony.

Setting a Bridal Gown Budget

On average, brides who shop retail stores and buy an off-the-rack dress can expect to spend between $500 and $1,000. Wedding gowns of all different styles and cuts have an enormous variation in pricing, though: brides could get lucky and find a dress for less than $100, but you can easily spend as much as $4,700 or more!

It's normal to feel overwhelmed by sticker shock the first time you browse a selection of wedding dresses and check the price tags. It can be hard to part with so much hard-earned money for a dress that you'll probably only wear for 8 hours of your life! But remember that you will only have one wedding dress, and you will be seeing it in your wedding pictures for the rest of your life. If finances allow, you shouldn't feel guilty about splurging on this special once-of-a-lifetime expense.

If you've gone over your finances and still feel nervous about taking on the cost of a wedding dress, seriously consider money-saving wedding dress tips like renting a gown or buying a pre-owned dress. Traditionally, the bridesmaids pay for their own dress, shoes, and hair.

Custom Made Bridesmaid Dresses

Whether you choose a pre made bridesmaid dress pattern, or start from scratch, you can come up with a unique bridesmaid dress that can be fitted to each of your friends.

A quick trip to the local fabric store is a great way to see exactly what is available. Fabric stores usually have a table laid out with pattern books from a range of designers. By flipping through books from companies such as McCall or Butterick, you can often find a bridesmaid dress pattern that fits your needs. Most of the patterns will be readily available at the store, and will provide you with a list of all the materials needed to sew the dress.

If you have something more specific in mind, you can contact a seamstress in your area and tell her what you are looking for. A skilled seamstress will be able to take you ideas and put them down on paper, to create a workable pattern that she can use to produce a dress for your bridesmaids.

Once you have a pattern in mind, you can choose material to make it. Fabric stores offer an enormous selection of materials that fit nearly any design. You can select expensive cloth, or find a less expensive alternative that still looks great. If you have the time, keep an eye open for sales where older stock is offered at discount rates to make room for newer material.

One huge advantage of using a bridesmaid dress pattern is that you can custom fit the dresses to each of your bridesmaids. If one is larger or smaller than the others, you can easily put together a dress that compliments the individual build of that bridesmaid, without loosing the symmetry of your wedding party. When you have a junior bridesmaid, or one of your bridesmaids is pregnant, this can make your life much easier.

While it is simpler to hire a seamstress to make your dresses, if you are skilled at sewing you could make your own bridesmaid dresses. Each pattern will have a rating as to the level of experience required to sew it. Be careful not to overface yourself as the added stress of a pattern that is too difficult can make the dressmaking process an unwelcome chore.

Bridesmaid dress patterns are a great way to get exactly what you want in your bridesmaid attire without having to search a multitude of shops and boutiques for what you want. You can fit the dresses for everyone in your party, and no-one needs to look out of place. Best of all, you can save a lot of money by purchasing raw materials at discounted prices and sewing the dresses yourself.

Discounted Wedding dresses

Discounted Wedding dresses

Discounted Wedding dresses

A wedding can chalk up your expenses quite a bit. One great way to save money on your wedding is to look for a wedding dress discount. Discounted wedding dresses do not mean the cheap low quality dress that's in your mind now. Instead these dresses are sold at a discounted price as in the case of online shopping stores.

When you shop online, the sellers do not need an actual brick storefront to sell their goods. That's why the dresses can be sold at a lower price. One thing you need to remember when purchasing dresses online is to stick to reputable dealers. Make sure you can contact them again in the future. If you opt to shop online, you get a chance to look at various designs and styles of gowns that you can afford.
Discounted Wedding dresses
First thing is for you to determine your needs. Do you have a theme? Do you want colored dresses? Once you determine what you need, it will be easier to narrow down your search. Discounted wedding dresses can be found for every style imaginable, from the traditional formal gowns right down to the informal dresses and even discounted designer wedding dresses.

Remember that when you spend your money on a discounted wedding dress, you are not settling for second best or lower quality. It just means that you're able to prioritize and spend your money wisely. Did you know that some dresses can be purchased at as much as an 80% discount from online stores?
Discounted Wedding dresses
That money that you save from purchasing a discounted wedding dress can be used for other things like your reception or your honeymoon. Deciding not to spend too much money on a wedding dress does not mean that you cannot be the most magnificent bride ever. Choosing a discounted wedding dress will not only save you money, it will also be fun when you can get the dress of your dreams for less.

China Glaze Vintage Vixen Collection 2010 - Swatches and Review

Today I have for you one of the most exciting collections for this fall - the China Glaze Vintage Vixen Collection! Every year it is the same with me. I can´t wait for their fall collections because they always come with such pretty shades. Remember the Rodeo Diva Collection from 2008? Well that is my favourite nail polish collection ever :) So lets have a look at the newest one.

The collection is inspired by the 40s. The official description says: "For Fall 2010, the China Glaze Vintage Vixen Collection captures the vivid and saturated hues of the 1940’s with this seductively complex palette. These classic shades of the season recreate the timeless tableau of movie land mystique, perfect red pouts and steamy nights where swing was the scene!"

What a great era to be inspired with! Again, this collections has a total of twelve shades that come in two sets. Of course the polishes can be bought separately. Here they are:

The swatches are all without a base or top coat and are in natural daylight (no sun or lightbox).

You can watch my video of the collection here.

JITTERBUG
A beautiful black/grey foil metallic. It shines so much, looks like a shiny stone. One of my favourites. Two coats.

BOGIE
It is always hard to say which shade from a collection is the best for me but I think it is this one. Love at first sight. Not only is the shade really beautiful but the application was flawless and it is very richly pigmented. One coat could have been just fine, I did two. Get this one!

HEY DOLL
The name and the shade make this polish so girly. It is soft and elegant but still not boring for me. Great color for fall. Two coats again here.

FOXY
This is such a beautiful fall shade. Reminds me of the falling leaves. Red with golden shimmer. Two coats.

INGRID
Another contribution to the taupe trend and a very pretty one! It has very soft golden shimmer. Two coats.

SWING BABY
The second foil of the collection. This time it is a champagne. The only polish from the whole collection I used three coats.

GOIN' MY WAY?
Warm metallic bronze. Very pretty and very well pigmented. Can´t wait to do a full mani with this one when fall comes. Two coats.

RIVETER ROUGE
Bright red with silver micro glitter. As with all the swatches this is without a top coat which you might want to use to sooth down the rough surface. Two coats.

CLASSIC CAMEL
The name says it all. First thing that comes to my mind when i look at this polish is a camel. I think this is the most unique color of the whole collection. I really like the golden flecks it has. This color will not suit all skin tones though. Two coats.

EMERALD FITZGERALD
One of my favourites. A beautiful green that leans to the blue side. What else could I want? Just look at the depth of the polish. Two coats.

MIDNIGHT MISSION
Like a starry sky. Beautiful glossy blue with silver glitter. The glitter is very soft and easy to remove. So so pretty!! Two coats.

FIRST CLASS TICKET
What fall collection would it be without a purple! And what a beautiful one. Dark but not too much. A bit more to the blue side but it still is purple. I saw some pictures of it looking almost blue but it isn´t. Love the depth of this one.

Well this is it. All twelve of the polishes from the Vintage Vixen Collection which should launch in July 2010. I really like the choice of colors and the formula on most of these. They were all but one two coaters and I didn´t have any major application problems. It will sound crazy but I can´t wait for fall to come! :)

Let me know what you think about the collection? Any must haves?

Glaze²

Hi all!

Today I have a short post for you, but I like it so I hope you will too.

ManGlaze Matte is Murder with one coat of Nubar Diamont and China Glaze Awaken for stamping. I used M70 to stamp, it's one of my newer plates - I ordered a bunch of plates with mostly full nail images. I really like the contrast with this one, but I think it doesn't pop Matte is Murder as much as it deserves.. But I do think these two make a lovely combination.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sally Hansen Cyber

My first Sally Hanesn polish. I have to say a big thank to a fellow blogger Annie for sending it to me! She sent me a great purple, I love the color so much! But not the application. This polish needs three coats. The first is very runny and the other two build up the color. I could go with that as the color is really stunning. But there was another problem. I used one coat of Seche Vite as usual and this polish wasn´t dry even after six hours :( Does anyone have the same problem? Any suggestions for a dupe?

Good Idea To Start Out With Simple Simple Nail Art 2010

Most people have probably noticed people with intricate designs and patterns on their nails and attempted to repeat the process at home. Some people may not be able to do the fancy designs with lots of detail and color but it is possible to start off with simple nail art that looks just as professional. Detailed nail art is a skill and many people train for years and some even take classes in order to be able to do the designs. However for those that want to learn how to do nail art it is a good idea to start out with simple designs.
Simple Nail Art 2010
Good Idea To Start Out With Simple Simple Nail Art 2010
Shapes such as circles and squares are relatively simple and most people can catch on with a little practice. Flower petals and things are also fairly easily because most people can draw a few lines to look like petals. Dots and stripes are also fairly simple and it is always good to do a few practice designs first to get the hang of it. Some people prefer simple nail art and like one color or just a simple design at the end of their nail or even just a splash of color. Two tone nails or nails that are different colors are also great nail art and very simple. Painting an individual’s nails orange and black for Halloween is very basic. Simply obtain black and orange nail polish and paint each nail carefully. The key to simple nail art is making it as neat as possible. Whether the person doing the nails is experienced or beginners it is important that the nails are always as neat as possible.

Ciaté Burlesque

My second Ciaté polish is an opposite of the first one. While Refresher is a very light clean spring color, Burlesque is a dark vampy. It falls in the same category of dark purple cremes as Orly Wild Wisteria or OPI Siberian Nights but is a tad darker. It is almost black. While I like the color, I still think it is not that special. The formula was great on this one, you could go just with one coat, I used two. And again...I LOVE the bottle!

NAIL LACQUER Pictures

MAC-Liberty-of-London-Nail-Lacquers

Two nail lacquers are included in the Liberty of London collection: Blue India, a teal-ish blue shade; and Vestral White, a creamy milky white hue. I haven't tried either of these, but the Blue India nail lacquer looks fantastic, and the packaging is beyond cute.

OPI Absolutely Alice (Alice In Wonderland Collection 2010)

I am posting this just in case someone just dropped from space and never seen swatches of it before. I really didn´t have a nice time swatching it. I have the mini version and I just hate the brushes they have! It was so hard to apply (and to get off..). Really not a fan of this polish although I know a lot of you love it :)
