(Serbian music from Southern Hungary)

Vujicsics is named after the great Hungarian composer, collector and musicologist, Tihamer Vujicsics, who died in 1976 in a plane crash. Like him, the group have dedicated themselves to the music of the national minorities from the southern parts of the country, particularly Serbian and Croatian. Their instrumental fluency is spectacular and justifiably reknowned. They are often joined in performance by the great Hungarian singer Marta Sebestyen, as they are on this recording.
The members of the group include graduates from the leading musical academies of Hungary as well as professional musicologists. They have visited the lands of the Southern Slav peoples on both sides of the Danube, in both Hungary and Yugoslavia, collecting songs. There is no other group in either country with such a wide repertoire of songs from this great musical tradition.
